Weekend Master Tap Intensives:
Take it to the Stage
Tony Waag and Chloe Arnold bring you the Ultimate Tap Choreography experience! Work intensively with today's top Teachers/Choreographers as they create new tap works to be premiered in New York City. The weekend consists of two intensive choreography sessions on Saturday and Sunday and ends with an audition for an Off-Broadway Show -- Tony Waag's Sound Check Concert Series in February of 2009 -- and a chance to perform at Tap City at the world famous Joyce Theater in July of 2009.

This is not a history of tap dancing. It is one determined woman's highly personal account of falling in love with and living the tap life. One of the linchpins behind the Great Tap Revival of the 1970s and 80s, Jane Goldberg tracked down, studied with, and performed alongside some of the tap greats of the twentieth century. In the process, she came up with a genre all her own Rhythm & Schmooze.
A romantic, Goldberg thought tap dancing would provide the most direct route to finding a partner like Fred Astaire. It did not, she discovered quickly. What she did discover, however, were her happy feet. Those feet, combined with great tenacity and endless curiosity, led her to ferret out a generation of show biz hoofers who had involuntarily gone underground. Shoot Me While I m Happy the title comes from an old vaudeville expression captures a wealth of memories both wacky and touching.

First we have to thanks our friends at the ADEA, The Alberta Dance Educator's Association, Blazing Rhythms and the PCDAA, Pure Class Dance Arts Association for their generous donations to the workshop, and The Africa Project.

NOW YOU CAN TAP DANCE IN BRAZILIAN CARNAVAL 2009...
In 2008, Christiane Matallo made history when she spearheaded the
effort to include a group of tap dancers from all over Brazil (and me
the "Americana") in the samba school Mocidade Alegre... for the first
time ever, a group of tap dancers were included not only as a featured
choreographed segment, but also as part of the percussion for the
Brazilian Carnaval Celebration in Sao Paulo, Brazil. We were flooded
with news coverage and interest stories and it was by far one of the
most exciting venues in which we performed in front of some of the
largest audiences in the world!
Back by popular demand, we are trying to make it bigger than ever by
expanding to make this an international representation of tap dancers

Los Zafiros are a musical phenomenon molded by their time and place that caused a sensation in Havana and beyond throughout the 1960's and into the early '70's. They were the "Beatles of 1060s' Cuba"Though they enjoyed international acclaim, touring widely throughout Europe, Los Zafiros have remained in relative obscurity throughout the U.S. as a result of the political climate of the cold war.
The sensuality of their musical and personal style brought them a rabid female following and heavy air play on national radio, making them very much the Beatles. Four decades after their formation, Los Zafiros popularity, sparked by the successful 1998 release of the Spanish-language feature film "Zafiros - Locura Azul," and of the "Bossa Cubana" CD from World Circuit Records ("Buena Vista Social Club"). On a popular battle-of-the-bands style radio program hosted by Adrian Mesa of 92.3 Classica-FM in Miami in December 2001, Los Zafiros receive a majority of the call-in votes compared to their competition. Ballet & Modern Dance Technique
Each day begins with a 1.5 hour dance class with live accompaniment in the state of the art dance studio at the Chicago Cultural Center. The modern class focuses on performing movement with clarity and articulation; moving through space with command and with awareness of self and others; exploring focus and use of imagery to shape movement; and, applying principles of dynamic alignment, breath flow, and the body's relationship to gravity to all movement. Ballet classes will take place Tuesday and Thursday, while modern classes will be held Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Repertoire
Participants will learn excerpts from Hedwig Dances' current repertoire with particular emphasis on developing partnering skills.
Improvisation/Composition
Dancers will explore and apply improvisational and compositional tools and techniques towards the creation of short dance studies that will be performed on the last day of the workshop. Emphasis will be on developing a discerning choreographic eye.
Guest teachers already confirmed for the workshop include Victor Alexander and Gerald Nevin.

Dancers are paid for rehearsals and performances.

About the Book
The History of Los Angeles Graffiti Art Volume 2, 1989-1994 assembles over 95 interviews of the most talented and prolific graffiti artists from the heyday of L.A.'s burgeoning urban art scene. Some of the writer's featured in Volume 2 are Skill, Anger, Haze, Chaka, Severe, Coax, Duce, Ganas, Jimer, Krush, Feevo, Oiler, Bruin, Vyal, Pranks, Kofie, Toomer, Hex TGO, Power, Sacred and so many more. This volume, like the first, is unlike any other book on the graffiti art phenomena. It is a collaborative effort by active graffiti writers who are dedicated to exposing the realities of this subculture.
The graffiti writers interviewed in this volume have gone on to become some of the most celebrated and sought after artists of the 21st century. This book provides in-depth narratives from graffiti writers and artists who have hitherto only been know via their licit and illicit wall art and through urban lore. As graffiti artists themselves, the publishers, editors, and designers of this extensive volume have made certain that all the narratives and photos represent this true urban art form in a way that both educates readers of ethnographic texts and impresses consumers of quality art-books.
In addition to first-time interviews with legends of West Coast Los Angeles graffiti art, the entire volume relies on many never-before seen photos that make the book as interesting as a photo essay as it is important as a sociological document. In addition, this book contains current photos that display the progression and influence of these writers. This book will be sought after by artists, historians, coffee-table book consumers, scholars and students in the social sciences, graffiti writers, and anyone interested in reading about and looking at one of the most talked about and often misunderstood cultural movements of all time.
True to our ethnographic approach, every attempt has been made to preserve the proper context of photos as well as maintain the essence of the quotes, stories, and histories printed in this book. These are the stories, in the writers' own words, of how they got into graffiti, and what affect this subculture, the loss of friends, and the discovery of art and the urban environment had on them. Every story and first-hand account in this volume was provided through in-person interviews and correspondence over the course of more than a year. It was important to provide a primary account of the graffiti writer's story, and each is included because it represents the experiences shared by a community of other writers.
Volume 2 contains over 420 pages and is comprised of the following sections:
Experiences - Volume 2 contains over 95 exclusive detailed interviews. These interviews are "free-style," not scripted, and are based on each writer's experience, personal views and memories.
Spotlights - Special tribute to all writers who made significant contributions and influences to the Los Angeles graffiti scene.

Robert "Relax" Reiling (publisher / designer) has been involved with the the Los Angeles graffiti scene for over 24 years. He is dedicated to positively representing the Los Angeles graffiti art movement, culture, and phenomena. In addition to securing the personal narratives of graffiti artists, he continues to secure legal wall space around Los Angeles for active graffiti artists hoping to refine their skills and expose their vision to the community at large. Relax holds a Bachelor Degree in Business.
Robert "Wisk" Alva (publisher / researcher) is one of the founding fathers of the Los Angeles graffiti movement. In addition to educating an entire generation of West Coast writers with his styles and tactics as a notorious bomber during the 1980s, Wisk is proud to be recognized as one of the custodians of the Los Angeles graffiti culture with his vast collection of mementos and memories that represent every corner of the graffiti scene.
Stefano Bloch (editor) has been a bomber and member of the CBS Crew for almost 20 years. Since earning his Master's Degree at the UCLA Department of Urban Planning, he has appeared in the documentary on global graffiti Bomb It (2007), and is currently studying ethnographic research methods while translating aspects of his graffiti career and spatial/aesthetic perspective into a PhD dissertation in the Department of Geography, University of Minnesota.
"SPURN PDB" (DVD developer / designer) has brought his creative and insightful street visions and skills to the DVD supplement for this volume. His images help clarify aspects of the graffiti art movement that have been otherwise misunderstood.

The History of Los Angeles Graffiti Art Volume 2, 1989-1994 assembles over 95 interviews of the most talented and prolific graffiti artists from the heyday of L.A.'s burgeoning urban art scene. Some of the writer's featured in Volume 2 are Skill, Anger, Haze, Chaka, Severe, Coax, Duce, Ganas, Jimer, Krush, Feevo, Oiler, Bruin, Vyal, Pranks, Kofie, Toomer, Hex TGO, Power, Sacred and so many more. This volume, like the first, is unlike any other book on the graffiti art phenomena. It is a collaborative effort by active graffiti writers who are dedicated to exposing the realities of this subculture.
The graffiti writers interviewed in this volume have gone on to become some of the most celebrated and sought after artists of the 21st century. This book provides in-depth narratives from graffiti writers and artists who have hitherto only been know via their licit and illicit wall art and through urban lore. As graffiti artists themselves, the publishers, editors, and designers of this extensive volume have made certain that all the narratives and photos represent this true urban art form in a way that both educates readers of ethnographic texts and impresses consumers of quality art-books.
In addition to first-time interviews with legends of West Coast Los Angeles graffiti art, the entire volume relies on many never-before seen photos that make the book as interesting as a photo essay as it is important as a sociological document. In addition, this book contains current photos that display the progression and influence of these writers. This book will be sought after by artists, historians, coffee-table book consumers, scholars and students in the social sciences, graffiti writers, and anyone interested in reading about and looking at one of the most talked about and often misunderstood cultural movements of all time.
True to our ethnographic approach, every attempt has been made to preserve the proper context of photos as well as maintain the essence of the quotes, stories, and histories printed in this book. These are the stories, in the writers' own words, of how they got into graffiti, and what affect this subculture, the loss of friends, and the discovery of art and the urban environment had on them. Every story and first-hand account in this volume was provided through in-person interviews and correspondence over the course of more than a year. It was important to provide a primary account of the graffiti writer's story, and each is included because it represents the experiences shared by a community of other writers.
Volume 2 contains over 420 pages and is comprised of the following sections:

On Wednesday, July 16, we present the explosive Gypsy brass band, the Boban Markovic Orkestar. Thursday, July 17 showcases the torrid tangos of the Argentinean band Orquesta TÃpica Imperial. On Friday, July 18, New York's underground club scene comes uptown when Swing welcomes the Budos Band, Chico Mann, and Jeannie Hopper's Liquid Sound Lounge with Jay Rodriguez. And Grammy-winner Albita brings the rhythms of her native Cuba via Miami's Little Havana to Damrosch Park on Saturday, July 19.
On Tuesday, July 22, the Harlem Renaissance Orchestra arrives with its big-band sound and special guest jazz vocalist Mary Stallings. And on Friday, July 25, Catalan rumba pioneer Peret is joined by his younger rock-'n'-roll-influenced Spanish countrymen, La Troba Kung-Fú. The Spanish Harlem Orchestra wraps up the season on Saturday, July 26.

This is an expanded version of the group (with six dancers, two vocalists, three saxes and marimba), performing new material and choreography. I will be performing with Rumbatap as saxophonist, arranger and musical director.

Michel (flute) and Tony (acoustic guitar) have recorded a beautiful CD of Brazilian classics and originals including bossa nova, jazz, and choro. Their interplay and unique interpretations are full of fire and imagination. CD Release date coming soon!
NEW QUARTET CD: This August I'll be recording a new quartet project with guitarist Mark McCarron, bassist Doug Largent and drummer Russ Meissner. We've been writing and rehearsing a pile of new songs and I'm really looking forward to hearing this one!

Rumbatap at Summerstage August 1st!
Max Pollak's Rumbatap will be appearing Friday night, August 1st at 8 pm at Central Park's Summerstage. This is an expanded version of the group (with six dancers, two vocalists, three saxes and marimba), performing new material and choreography. I will be performing with Rumbatap as saxophonist, arranger and musical director.
My Octet will also be on the program, performing two numbers with Max and his group.

NEW CD RELEASE: Michel Gentile and Tony Romano: Flesh and Steel (DT 003)
Michel (flute) and Tony (acoustic guitar) have recorded a beautiful CD of Brazilian classics and originals including bossa nova, jazz, and choro. Their interplay and unique interpretations are full of fire and imagination. CD Release date coming soon!
NEW QUARTET CD: This August I'll be recording a new quartet project with guitarist Mark McCarron, bassist Doug Largent and drummer Russ Meissner. We've been writing and rehearsing a pile of new songs and I'm really looking forward to hearing this one!

Hoofers’ House, May 23 Hosted by Jason Samuels Smith;
Featuring DJ Reborn and video artist Rashaad Newsome
Evening is part of citywide weekend of events celebrating
National Tap Dance Day
New York, NY, April 29, 2008—On Friday, May 23, The Kitchen
and The Studio Museum in Harlem present Hoofers’ House, an
ongoing quarterly series in which some of the best of New
York City’s rhythm tap community come together to share and
showcase their work. The evening will be hosted by
performer, choreographer and director Jason Samuels Smith
and will feature DJ Reborn. Film and video artist Rashaad
Newsome will create unique visuals to accompany the
performance. Tap dancers of all ages are invited to take
the floor for a jam session. Curated by Rashida Bumbray,
Hoofers’ House will take place at 8:00 P.M. at The Kitchen
(512 West 19th Street). Admission is free. Among the most
unique and cutting edge tap jam sessions in the city,
Hoofers’ House has been propelling a rejuvenation of the
genre for the last several years with the addition of live
and electronic music and projected visuals. This year,
Rashaad Newsome has reprogrammed a Logitec duel action
video game controller to manipulate moving images live
during the performance. Past hosts and performers include
Chloe Arnold, Jason Bernard, Ayodele Casel, Marshall Davis,
Omar Edwards, Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, Michaela Lerman,
Tamango and Joseph Wiggan. Tap Legends including Harold
Kromer, Fayard Nicholas, Tina Pratt and Jimmy Slyde have
also attended. From the 1920’s through the 1940’s, the back
room of Harlem’s Comedy Club on 131st Street, owned by
Lonnie Hicks, was the home of the legendary “Hoofer’s
Club,” a site for the creation of, the listening to and
stealing of steps. Among the rhythm tap dancers given the
esteemed title of “hoofer,” celebrated performers including
Legendary Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, King Raustus Brown,
John Bubbles, Charles “Honi” Coles and many more graced the
floor of this intimate room. In honor of this important
place in Harlem’s history, The Studio Museum in Harlem and
The Kitchen are proud to co-host a new home for hoofers.
Jason Samuels Smith (performer, choreographer, director) is
a leader in the art form of Tap. He won both an Emmy and
American Choreography Award for “Outstanding Choreography”
for the opening number of the 2003 Jerry Lewis/MDA
Telethon—a tribute to the late Gregory Hines. Samuels Smith
recently received the Gregory Hines Humanitarian Award.
Past honors include a Certificate of Appreciation by the
City of Los Angeles for creating the First Annual Los
Angeles Tap Festival in 2003; the “Ivy of Education” from
Brainerd Institute; the “President Kenny Award” from Stony
Brook; an Alpert/McDowell Residency Award; and an Arts
International Grant among others. Samuels Smith recently
appeared as a choreographer for Grammy Recording Artist Mya
on CBS’s Secret Talents of the Stars, and as a special
guest on Fox’s hit series So You Think You Can Dance. He
also co-starred in Dean Hargrove’s Tap Heat, an
award-winning short film; Outkast’s feature film Idlewild;
and Debbie Allen’s AMC television series Cool Women.
Performance credits include Sammy (a tribute to Sammy Davis
jr.), a leading role of the production of Soul Possessed;
the Tony Award winning Broadway cast of Bring in Da’Noise,
Bring in Da’Funk; and starring in the critically acclaimed
production of Imagine Tap! Mr. Samuels Smith continues to
tour the U.S. and beyond with India Jazz Suites, a dynamic
collaboration with Kathak Master Pandit Chitresh Das, his
own tap company A.C.G.I (Anybody Can Get It), JaJa
Productions Band featuring jazz-influenced hip hop music,
and Charlie’s Angels: A Tribute to Charlie Parker,
featuring some of the best women performers today. DJ
Reborn spins a mix of soul, hip-hop, reggae, house,
afro-beat, nu-jazz, rock and more. A Chicago native, she
now resides in New York and spins at clubs, parties,
museums including The Studio Museum in Harlem and the Bronx
Museum and live performances with The Roots, Common, Talib
Kweli, India Arie, John Legend, Alice Smith and Goapele.
Reborn is also a mentor/workshop facilitator for N.Y.C.
teens. She has crafted a new workshop specifically for teen
girls, which explores djing, creative writing and women’s
images in music and media culture. Since 2002, DJ Reborn
has been the musical director and a live on stage DJ with
Will Power on the off Broadway Hip Hop theatre hit show
Flow. She partnered with Will Power again in 2007 as the
musical director and sound designer for his original
children’s theatre production Little Honey Bo. Reborn was
the 2004- 2005 international tour DJ with Russell Simmons
Def Poetry Jam and she has made four appearances on BET’s
Rap City. She has been featured in Trace, NRG, URB,
Scratch, DJ Times and recently appeared on the cover of The
Village Voice. Born in New Orleans, LA, Rashaad Newsome
received a B.A. in Art History at Tulane University before
studying Film at Film Video Arts in New York. He has been
the recipient of several awards and grants including the
2008 Location 1 International Residency Program, New York,
NY; the 2007 BCAT/Rotunda Gallery Joint Multimedia
Residency, New York, NY; the 2006 Franklin Furnace grant

Old friends aren't 'Risky Business' for Tom Cruise
Cruise reunites with Chicago 'co-star' from film

Chicagoan Candace Jordan got quite the thrill Wednesday
afternoon when she ran into none other than Tom Cruise --
along with wife Katie Holmes, baby daughter Suri and
Cruise's mom and sister -- shopping at Neiman Marcus on
Michigan Avenue.
But this wasn't just a normal fan-spots-a-favorite-star
story. Cruise, of course, was here to tape some stuff for
''Oprah'' shows today and Monday marking the 25th
anniversary of his breakout role in ''Risky Business'' --
filmed here in 1983. Jordan, then known as Candace Collins,
happened to have a small part in that film!
Without missing a beat, she walked right up to the actor
and told him about ''co-starring'' in that iconic film.
Among her few scenes in ''Risky Business,'' Jordan had one
that many will remember: ''I was the call girl who broke in
on Tom when he was having his important college admission
interview with the guy from Princeton.''
Jordan, a popular regular with hubby Chuck Jordan on Our
Town's social and charity scene, also told Cruise about a
running gag she has with friends, telling them, ''He
would've been nothing without me!''
The actor loved the joke, took Jordan by the hand and
immediately introduced her to Katie, Suri and the rest of
his family. Though the Cruises were clearly shopping at
Neiman's, Jordan reported there was nary a shopping bag to
be seen, ''just a salesgirl standing there'' -- a Neiman's
personal shopper assisting them during the 90-minute
shopping spree.
While Jordan didn't notice any security guards, there were
two quietly on hand as the Cruises hit various departments,
including women's, shoes and, natch, children's.
Suri was so taken with one outfit, they cut off the tags --
and she wore it right out of the store.
Even 25 years later, Jordan reports, ''I'm still getting
residual checks from the movie,'' in which she was cast a
few years after being named Playboy's Playmate of the Month
for December 1979.
As Candace Collins, Jordan also appeared in the
Chicago-made ''Class'' and ''Smokey and the Bandit, Part
3.''
FUNNY FILM: West Side native Robert Townsend has snared
Bill Cosby to participate in his documentary about black
comedians, a project that is really gathering steam. Cosby
joins Chris Rock, Steve Harvey, George Wallace, Paul Mooney
and Katt Williams in the film inspired by comedian and
writer Darryl Littleton's book, Why We Laugh: Black
Comedians on Black Comedy -- a look at African-American
humor and its cultural influence in this country.
ON HIS TOES: Talk about just in time! Given that CBS
quickly canceled ''Secret Talents of the Stars,'' it's
lucky that Chicago dancer Tre Dumas was seen on its only
aired episode -- helping pop singer Mya showcase her tap-
dancing skills. Dumas is now back home co-directing the
Chicago Human Rhythm Project's upcoming annual concerts
celebrating National Tap Dance Day.
'JERSEY' HEADS WEST: It seems appropriate that the latest
production of ''Jersey Boys'' opens in Las Vegas Saturday
-- which just happens to be Frankie Valli's 74th birthday.
The Chicago production of the Tony Award-winning show,
about the rise of Valli and the Four Seasons, continues
here at the LaSalle Bank Theater, with Jarrod Spector
playing Valli.
Bill Zwecker is seen at 5:50, 6:25 and 11:25 weekdays on
WBBM-Channel 2.

The Samba Percussion Course is an intensive workshop
designed to train students in the fundamentals of samba
percussion, drawing on Samba New York!'s original
arrangements and the styles of some of Rio's top samba
schools. There is no other course like this one being
offered in New York City!
The Beginning Section focuses on the basics of the samba
school Bateria (percussion ensemble). Students will learn
technique, the rhythmic structure of samba, and how to play
with swing. The class will work on simple arrangements for
samba-enredos (theme sambas) and will be asked to practice
their instruments and to do listening exercises on a weekly
basis. Students are encouraged to master the basics as
quickly as possible and to move to the Advanced Section
when they are ready. Beginning students may stay and
participate in the Advanced Section for no additional
charge.
The Advanced Section serves as training for performances of
the Samba New York! Bateria. Students will learn more
advanced techniques and arrangements and will be expected
to focus on one instrument. Advanced students may arrive
early and participate in the Beginning Section for no
additional charge.
To register for either section, send us an email with your
name, telephone number, and experience with samba
percussion. The instructor will determine your level based
on the information you provide and possibly an audition.

Bahia, Brazil. Lead by master Afro-Brazilian percussionist
Dendê, the beat is always central, but it is tempered by
thought provoking lyrics and sweet melodies. Comprised of
musicians of various backgrounds, the groups' diversity
permeates its music with rhythms ranging from Nigerian
Afrobeat to Brazilian Samba to Cuban Pilón.

A former member of Timbalada, Dendê has been performing
professionally since the age of 14. With Timbalada, Dendê
toured all over Brazil, Europe and Asia, appeared on
various television shows and has performed and recorded
with such artists as Marisa Monte, Gilberto Gil, Carlinhos
Brown, Yvette Sangalo and Sepultura. Having left Brazil in
2001, Dendê now lives in New York, performing and recording
with his groups Hãhãhães, an Afro-Brazilian/Afro-Cuban

Charon Aldredge was featured in the national/international
tour of "Riverdance the Show", "Cab Calloway's Legacy of
Swing", Savion Glover's Improvography ll at Hollywood 's
Kodak Theatre, and she was one of the first tap dancers to
ever perform at Russia 's Kremlin Palace Theatre.

Chantel Heath is a professional dancer and choreographer.
She has performed in Savion Glover's group Ti Dii. Has
performed in Cuba , Russia , and France . Featured in Paris
Mann's Things Aint What They Used to Be. She has traveled
with the Kennedy Tap Company. Chantel is currently teaching
tap and hip hop at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy .
Arlene Kennedy is the co-founder and the artistic director
of Universal Dance Designs and the world famous Kennedy Tap
Company. To the credit of her and her late brother Paul
Kennedy come such wonderful feet, as Dormeshia Sumbry
Edwards, Derick Grant, Charon Aldredge, Cyd Glover-Hill,
and the Nicholas Sisters. Ms. Kennedy teaches at Santa
Monica College and the Debbie Allen Dance Academy .
Nicole Nicholas has traveled all over the world performing
with her grandfather, Fayard Nicholas of the Legendary
Nicholas Brothers and with the Kennedy Tap Company. She is
the managing producer for the Debbie Allen Dance Academy
and has produced a number of dance festivals and musicals.
Sarah Reich has been seen on The World is My Drum tap
instructional DVDs. She performs with Anybody Can Get It,
Syncopated Ladies and LA Ironworks. Sarah performed at
International Dance Festival in Beijing , China . Sarah
teaches at Everybody Dance and at the Debbie Allen Dance
Academy . She also teaches across the country assisting the
legendary Harold "Stumpy" Cromer.
Jason Rodgers has performed on the Academy Awards as well
as the North American tour of "Bring In Da Noise, Bring In
Da Funk". He has been featured in commercials for Levi's,
ESPN, Hummer, and Verizon Wireless VCast. Jason is a member
of the tap company A.C.G.I (Anybody Can Get It), alongside
Jason Samuels Smith.
Gregg Russell is anEmmy nominated choreographer, worked
with Gene Kelly and The Nicholas Brothers. He has his own
company, Tap Sounds Underground. He has directed TV
commercials and was featured in Dance Teacher Magazine.
Mike Wittmers has been tapping for 27 years. He's a former
cast member of Tap Dogs and has been on staff at EDGE
Performing Arts Center, Millennium Dance Complex and Debbie
Reynolds Dance Studio. Mike is the owner/creator of Double

Steve Zee has been a member of the Jazz Tap Ensemble and
Rhapsody In Taps and is the director of LA Ironworks. He is

Prominent past participants who have graced the floor include figures such as Fayard Nicholas, Jimmy Slyde, Tina Pratt, Jason Bernard and Ayodele Casel. Hello everyone it, has been a while coming but it has been worth the wait. With the help of our good freinds at TECHALTA our new website is up and running with this years line up. Believe it, we have Emmy award winning Jason Samuels Smith, and joining him are the tap talents of Chloe Arnold, Bril Barrett, Sarah Reich and for our Hip hop friends the amazing Mr. Wiggles. This summer's workshop Tap Into A Cure, August 13 - 16th, Magical Rhythms Show and Silent Auction at Festival Place, August 17th, are going to be the dance event of the the year. People it don't get any better than this, whether it is in the Hip hop or Tap world....... we are bringing you the very best! We hope to see you at our new location in the west end of Edmonton beside West Edmonton Mall, the world's largest mall, now the Mom's really will have something great to do while their children get the dance weekend of their lives. We are very excited to have the main stage at West Edmonton Mall for the Tap Jam,
August 14th, due to space availibilty it will be limited to how many can participate with the greatest tap dancer of our generation, so act fast to assure your place on stage. Everyone is welcome to come out and watch the masters jam together for our two great causes, The Hope Mission and The Africa Project. We are having a Panel Discussion and Autograph session on August16th, this is an evening where you get to ask questions of the faculty, take pictures and get an autograph or two! Gregory Hines Scholarship
HELLO TAP COMMUNITY,
I wanted to let you know of a great program here in NYC and of an opportunity for your contribution to make a difference on the continuing education of tap for all ages...My 4 year-old daughter Kaia would not have been able to participate in this program for the past two years without the help of a Gregory Hines Scholarship and I know of many others who directly benefit as well. They just had a wonderful 1st year concert performance up at Symphony Space, and seeing so many happy kids being able to perform with ease just simply confirmed how much of an asset their program is to NYC youth and teens.
They have the Spring Gala Benefit coming up on May 20th. Tickets are $250 each and they usually have an entertaining evening planned full of special guests and of course performances by their Youth Ensemble. If you'd like to contribute by attending this gala event, please call 646-230-9564 for your invitation.
There has been an offer to match any donation that is made after the minimum of $100,000 has been reached for up to $30,000 total. Since I know the direct impact this has on the community here in NY, I wanted to take the time and ask you to consider your tax donations for this year by sending your contribution of any amount to:
