Hi Everyone!
Tickets are selling fast through our website – if you don't
have a credit card to book online send an email through our
website with the list of classes and/or show tickets you
would like and we can reserve them and organize a cash
payment.
The Saturday night show is selling quickly but there are
still some great seats available on the Friday night. The
show is set to be a tap extravaganza that will showcase the
best Australian Tap Dancing Talents followed by a
celebration of the African spirit that is the heartbeat of
tap dance; featuring the hottest line up of African drum,
song, dance and tap performers ever assembled in Australia.
Including international guests Jason Samuels Smith & Chloe
Arnold.
Don't forget our kind sponsor Capezio have announced prizes
for the two main shows at the National Theatre - everyone
who purchases a ticket goes into the draw to win a $200
voucher for Capezio products. The winners will be announced
at the Friday and Saturday night show.
We encourage beginners to try some beginner classes at the
festival – if you don't have shoes – don't worry we will
have some available for you to try or just bring some comfy
shoes.
The Opening Night Jam is booked for Ministry of Dance on
Wednesday 15th October from 8 – 1030pm. Entry will be $10
for adults & $5 for children on the door and you will
receive 2 free drinks. If you are attending please RSVP to
ella@mitf.com.au.
MITF Promo gigs have been going well and we have a few more
left – this weekend we will be at Highpoint Shopping Centre
(Rosamond Rd, Maribynong) Centre Stage at 1230pm!

the program we are setting up to take tap dancing to
children from low socio-economic communities and educate

Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards has been apart of almost every
major Tap movie or show that has appeared in the history of
tap dance since the 80's. She was most recently nominated
for best actress and currently stars in the award-winning
Independant film "The Rise and Fall of Miss Thang" which
continues to tour film festivals. In addition to opening
the Harlem Tap Studio in NYC, Mrs. Sumbry-Edwards continues
to appear as a special guest for shows and festivals around
the world. She was also elected to the Advisory Board as
the Tap Advisor for Dance Magazine and the official Tap
Spokesperson for Capezio along with her family, as well as
being featured in their international advertising campaign.
Mrs. Sumbry-Edwards career includes acclaimed runs on
Broadway and off-Broadway in shows such as Black and Blue,
the Tony Award Winning Bring In Da'Noise, Bring In Da'Funk,
International Tour of Bring in Da'Noise, Bring in Da'Funk
(dance captain/principal dancer/understudy to the lead
role), and Imagine Tap! (featured soloist). Other
performances include the national tour of Wild Woman Blues
and Debbie Allen's SAMMY (the life and times of Sammy Davis
Jr.). Film credits include "TAP" with Gregory Hines, Spike
Lee's "Bamboozled" (Assistant Choreographer), and "The
Rodgers and Hart Story: Thou Swell, Thou Witty". Mrs.
Sumbry-Edwards' choreography has been featured in TAAP:The
Art & Appreciation of Percussion and was also utilized in
Michael Jackson's music video "Rock Your World". She was
also spotlighted in a commercial for Tops and is currently
filming for MTV's hit television series MADE.

ATDF Weekend Choreography Intensives
Work intensively with today's top Teachers/Choreographers
as they create new works to be premiered in New York City.
Experience first hand the process of creating choreography
and what it takes to become a professional Tap Dancer.
It's time to Take it to the Stage!
Each weekend experience consists of two intense
choreography sessions on Saturday and Sunday and ends with
an audition for an Off-Broadway Show in February of 2009
(Tony Waag's Sound Check Concert Series) and a chance to
perform at Tap City at the world famous Joyce Theater in
July of 2009.
Fee: $200 for each intensive (plus a one time $25 reg fee)
Limited enrollment of 25 students
Scholarships Available to Teens (ages 14-19)

class series. These workshops will typically consist of
three, one-hour classes with select Monsters
choreographers.
Classes will begin promptly at 5:30PM and range from $22
each. Most workshops will be observed by one of our
affiliated talent agencies (MSA, BLOC, CTG) who will be
scouting for talent. Monsters of HipHop scholarships will
be awarded as well!
Space is limited and available on a first-come,
first-served basis and registration is available online
here or by calling 1-888-5MONSTRS (registration only
available through Monsters of HipHop - if space is
available, admission to classes will be sold at The Ailey
Extension one hour prior to event start).
SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING OBSERVER PASSES AT THE AILEY
EXTENSION: Due to a limited amount of space and In our
efforts to include as many dancers in the Master Classes,
Observer Bands will not be available until the evening of
the event, limited to space available in the classroom (as
per building codes).
If the classes are sold out or at full capacity - no
observer wristbands will be available for the Master
Classes, but seating for families of the dancers will be
available in the lobby of The Ailey Extension. We will
make every effort to accomodate families who wish to
observe, starting at 5:15pm the evening of the event, at

Congratulations to Rhapsody for her artistic direction and
choreography of the thrilling club show Siren Assassins,

Shea Sullivan has been busy working on several shows
including Pagent, The Musical at the Stoneham Theatre, The
Road to Ruin (NYMF) at the 45th Street Theatre, and in
collaboration with Josh Bergasse for Wild About Harry
(NYMF)at Manhattan Movement & Arts Center.
Mike Schulster's new show REVOLUTION, blends dance with
live rock & roll and multimedia, will be touring the U.S.
this fall! REVOLUTON features Allison Holker and Jaimie
Goodwin from So You Think You Can Dance. Show kicks off

Maiysha
Originally from the Midwest, Maiysha, is a Brooklyn-based artist, whose unique collaborations with producer/co-writer/Eusonia founder, Scott Jacoby, have gained significant attention. Maiysha is a confident performer, who has done theater and vocal performance since childhood and already established a successful career in modeling. Her style of progressive soul was heavily influenced by late 70's and early 80's pop and R&B. Maiysha uses her background in creative writing to make meaningful, thought-provoking lyrics for her music. She skillfully examines the dualities of striving and setbacks, strength and vulnerability, & sensuality and spirituality. Maiysha's seductive voice, technical skill, and emotional authenticity have made for an exciting and welcome arrival on the contemporary soul music scene.
Alyson Williams
Native New Yorker, Alyson Williams, had early exposure to music through her bandleader/trumpeteer father, Bobby Booker. She sang with several groups before launching her solo career with the 1987 Def Jam single, 'Yes We Can Can.' As the first female R&B singer signed to Def Jam, she released her first album, "Raw," in 1989. The album produced several singles, including, "Just Call My Name," which hit #4 on the Billboard charts. The song is still played and is now considered a cult classic. "Raw" also included a duet with Blue Magic vocalist Ted Mills, titled "We're Gonna Make It." The single, "I Need Your Lovin," was a #8 success in the UK. In 1991, Alyson recorded "She's Not Your Fool" for the soundtrack to the movie Livin' Large, which appeared as the title track on her 1992 self-titled album. Alyson released a third album in 2004 with the U.K. with Expansion Records. Altogeth er, her career boasts nine R&B top 100 hits, as well as tours in both the U.S. and abroad.
Arturo O'Farrill
Pianist, composer, educator, and winner of the Latin Jazz USA Outstanding Achievement Award for 2003, was born in Mexico and raised in New York City. In 2002, Mr. O'Farrill created the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra for Jazz at Lincoln Center due in part to a large and very demanding body of substantial music in the genre of Latin and Afro Cuban Jazz. His debut album received GRAMMY award nomination in 2006.
Claudia Acuña
A pure, compelling, and original voice hailed by the LA Times a an "instrument of wonder", Chilean singer/songwriter/arranger Claudia Acuña draws upon the culture of her homeland by fusing Latin rhythms with her instinctive jazz sensibilities. Singing mostly in her mother tongue, Acuña makes it clear that music crosses all barriers - particularly when sung with her distinctive brand of authentic emotion. Born in Santiago, but raised in Concepcion, Chile, she returned to her native city and immersed herself in the jazz scene. There she performed on live radio, alongside musicians Wynton Marsalis, Michel Petrucciani, Joe Lovano and Danilo Perez. Acuña continues to perform and tour with many of jazz's most respected talent, yet her greatest achievement came recently when she was appointed a spokesperson for the international Christian relief development organization, World Vision Chile.
Geri Allen
A celebrated pianist/composer who performs for enthusiastic audiences worldwide. She has recorded with a host of artists in addition to releasing a number of her own major recordings, including "Miles: Cool and Collected" and tenure in the Ornette Coleman Quartet from 1991-1995. Ms. Allen has received numerous recent honors, including but not limited to the Keys to the City of Detroit and the City of Cleveland, The Benny Golson Award from Harvard University, and the African American Classical Music Award from Spelman College. She was both the first female and youngest recipient to win the Danish Jazzar Prize. Geri Allen's work as a composer has led to commissions from Lincoln Center, Music theater Group, American Music Theater Festival, Standford University, and the Walt Whitman Arts Center. Additionally, Ms. Allen presently serves as Associate Professor of Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation at the University of Michigan.

Do you know a child K-12 that would like to take some dance or voice
lessons? Through Upstate Dance & Arts Center, free lessons will be
offered into the month of December. These classes will aim toward a
holiday performance in December.
All classes will be held on the weekends throughout the months of
October & November. All levels of experience are welcome; from
absolute beginners to advanced students. If the student also takes
classes from another organization, we are okay with that. This is
purely an extra activity for anyone interested.
As mentioned above, all classes are free of charge. The performance
will be funded by donation & sponsors and will be free of charge to
the public and all proceeds will go to local charities.
If you know of any child that would like to participate, we would love
to have them. Also, if you know of anyone that would like to
volunteer, donate, or sponsor, we would love the help. Please contact
us as soon as possible.
We will hold our General Interest Meeting on Sunday, October 5th at
6:30pm at our studio location in Endwell. If there are any
organizations (churches, etc) that have a number of children
intersted, our instructors can travel to additional, more convenient
locations for most rehearsals.
Rehearsals will begin the following week (Saturday & Sunday) October 11 to 12.

Barbatuques and Global Rhythms 4
Group BarbatuquesDon't miss the North American debut of Barbatuques at
the Harris Theater, Nov. 28-30. This extraordinary Brazilian "body
band" has created a new "sound" unlike ANYTHING you have ever seen or
heard. Barbatuques' nine-day Chicago residency will also include two
preview performances: Saturday, November 22 at the International House
at the University of Chicago and Wednesday, November 26 as part of the
Old Town School of Folk Music's "World Music Wednesdays" series.
Barbatuques for KIDS!
Urban Gateways is partnering with CHRP to present a special
lecture/demonstration for almost 1000 K-12 students Tuesday, November
25 at the Harris Theater. The Old Town School of Folk Music will
present Barbatuques as one of their field trip artists, Wednesday,
November 26.
Barbatuques Goes West!
After Global Rhythms, the group will travel to Oakland, CA for a week
of exciting events with Crosspulse. By working with our peers around
Chicago and the United States, CHRP continues to build a larger
audience for tap and contemporary percussive arts . . . the beat goes
on!

As a part of Global Rhythms, CHRP partners with over 50 non-profits
from throughout Chicago. Groups like the Brazilian Cultural Center,
the Chicago Food Depository, Book Worm Angels and the International
Latino Cultural Center of Chicago will send their patrons to the show
and receive 50% of every ticket that their supporters purchase! It's
another way Chicago Human Rhythm Project builds community with rhythm.
We encourage you to tell your favorite non-profit organization about
this program. With a national decrease in charitable giving in 2008,
this program is a simple way for any non-profit to raise money! They

Thanksgiving Day Parade 2007 Looking for Tappers
Chicago Human Rhythm Project has been invited to participate again in
the McDonald's Thanksgiving Day Parade, rolling down State St. on
Thursday, Nov. 27.....for the 75th Anniversary!
We're currently recruiting tap dancers to join us as we hoof down the
street in celebration of the holiday, our city and tap. Community
partners include Penny Bovelli, Cathy Rosenberg, Stephanie Clay and
Lindsey Jones. If you or your studio is interested in participating,

Group BarbatuquesDon't miss the North American debut of Barbatuques at
the Harris Theater, Nov. 28-30. This extraordinary Brazilian "body
band" has created a new "sound" unlike ANYTHING you have ever seen or
heard. Barbatuques' nine-day Chicago residency will also include two
preview performances: Saturday, November 22 at the International House
at the University of Chicago and Wednesday, November 26 as part of the
Old Town School of Folk Music's "World Music Wednesdays" series.
Barbatuques for KIDS!
Urban Gateways is partnering with CHRP to present a special
lecture/demonstration for almost 1000 K-12 students Tuesday, November
25 at the Harris Theater. The Old Town School of Folk Music will
present Barbatuques as one of their field trip artists, Wednesday,
November 26.
Barbatuques Goes West!
After Global Rhythms, the group will travel to Oakland, CA for a week
of exciting events with Crosspulse. By working with our peers around
Chicago and the United States, CHRP continues to build a larger
audience for tap and contemporary percussive arts . . . the beat goes
on!

Barbatuques and Thanks-4-Giving
As a part of Global Rhythms, CHRP partners with over 50 non-profits
from throughout Chicago. Groups like the Brazilian Cultural Center,
the Chicago Food Depository, Book Worm Angels and the International
Latino Cultural Center of Chicago will send their patrons to the show
and receive 50% of every ticket that their supporters purchase! It's
another way Chicago Human Rhythm Project builds community with rhythm.
We encourage you to tell your favorite non-profit organization about
this program. With a national decrease in charitable giving in 2008,
this program is a simple way for any non-profit to raise money! They
simply need to call 773-281-1825 and ask for the Community Development
Manager.
CHRP and the 75th Thanksgiving Day Parade
Thanksgiving Day Parade 2007 Looking for Tappers
Chicago Human Rhythm Project has been invited to participate again in
the McDonald's Thanksgiving Day Parade, rolling down State St. on
Thursday, Nov. 27.....for the 75th Anniversary!
We're currently recruiting tap dancers to join us as we hoof down the
street in celebration of the holiday, our city and tap. Community
partners include Penny Bovelli, Cathy Rosenberg, Stephanie Clay and
Lindsey Jones. If you or your studio is interested in participating,
please contact CHRP's administrative offices at 773-281-1825 for more
information.

Center for our annual Winter Tap JAMboree! The weekend features:

Monday Night Tap Experience
MONDAY NIGHT TAP EXPERIENCE!
Hey LA hoofers! I'm putting together this Monday Night Tap Experience for young hoofers to hone their teaching and improvisational skills. Each Monday night will feature a different teacher, who will teach an intermediate/ advanced level class for an hour and 15 minutes. After the class, everyone is welcome to participate in a tap jam.
We are starting October 2008! All classes will be from 7:00- 8:15 pm. The tap jam is open to all tap dancers from 8:30- 10:00 pm.
This event will be held at my home studio: 4271 Madison Ave. Culver City, CA 90232, back house!
The class and jam is ONLY $5.00!!!
