About Robin Dunn's F.A.C.E.:

F.A.C.E. an acronym for Focus, Attitude, Confidence, Energy
and Eye Contact is a method designed to aid performing
artists with being powerful on stage and on camera. It is
also designed to aid business professionals with being more
confident in the work place. F.A.C.E. helps artists to
enhance their technical skills as well as increasing stage
presence and personality. It is a liberating tool to free
artists and business professionals to be who they really
are and project the same to the outer world - their
audience.

F.A.C.E. will connect you with the performer you are and
provide you with the tools necessary to compete in today's
world. Auditions and even interviews can be challenging and
F.A.C.E. provides the tools to manage nervousness, low
self-esteem, and lack of focus.

About Robin Dunn:

Baruch College where she received a BA in Marketing. In
2006 and 2007, she presented her patented F.A.C.E. Method

Robin and her program received rave reviews. Robin Dunn has
worked with a number of recording artists throughout her
career, including Raven Symone, Missy Elliott, Heather
Headley and Sean Kingston. Currently, Robin Dunn is a

Samba Soul w/ DENDÉ & THE HÃHÃHÃÉS

Samba Soul w/ DENDÉ & THE HÃHÃHÃÉS
Um Abraço para Nossos Amigos,
First of all, we at SOB's would like to thank everyone who
came out to celebrate with us on New Years Eve. The Bahian
All-Stars kept the party jumping from start to finish and
were featured on WNYC. Check it out:
http://www.wnyc.org/news/articles/119989
Samba Soul is a world music party that begins in Brazil and
takes you on a musical journey around the globe every week!
This week:
SOB's is proud to present a night of Oringinal
Afro-Brazilian music with Dende & Hahahaes and a late night
DJ who is sure to keep the dance floor jammed until the
early hours. Dende & Hãhãhães is lead by master
percussionist Dende, a former member of the world famous
Brazilian band Timbalada; the group performs a mixture of
Brazilian and Cuban music as well as other influences in
the African diaspora.
Lead by master Afro-Brazilian percussionist Dendê, the beat
is always central, but it is tempered by thought provoking
lyrics and sweet melodies. Comprised of musicians of
various backgrounds, the groups' diversity permeates its
music with rhythms ranging from Nigerian Afrobeat to
Brazilian Samba to Cuban Pilón.
Our chef, Jorge Lima, a native of Bahia, Brazil, describes
his cuisine as "Latin Soul", blending flavors from his home
country with those from the Caribbean, South America and
Africa. Developed over years of interacting with SOB's
various customers, Jorge's menue features dishes such as
Xim Xim, a dish typical of Northern Brazil; Sarava, a
contemporary favorite of Rio de Janeiro; the
quintessentially classic Feijoada; and the vastly popular
Banana Leaf Wrapped Snapper.
Hungry for more???
Samba Soul is FREE with dinner reservations before 7pm.
We're also offering
a weekly Bossa Nova Sunday Brunch with an open Sangria Bar.

Marcante, STRANGELY WONDERFUL.

Also, a couple of SAVE THE DATES:

NOW PLAYING
STAY OVER
Written by MATT MORILLO & MARIA MICHELES
Directed by MATT MORILLO
Dark sex comedy of a couple trying to reconcile after
infidelity teaches an important lesson: if you're trying to
kiss and make up on a snowy night, don't answer the door
buzzer.
"Stay Over" by Matt Morillo and Maria Micheles, directed by
Matt Morillo, is a comedy of what can happen to you when trying to make up after an infidelity. Mark and Michelle, a thirty-something couple, are settling in for an affectionate reconciliation on a snowy night in New York. Mark's a bit of a rake, and Michelle had allowed him an outside affair, in the hope that he would "get it out of his system." She relents on her tolerance when Lilly, the twenty-something dancer that Mark had dallied with, bursts into their apartment out of the snow, hoping to stay over.
The play spins hilarious comedy out of Mark's game to have his cake and eat it too. He's a cool operator, but he's outsmarted and outmaneuvered by the two women, each of whom is a sexual marauder in her own right. He plots to escape with Lilly after his reconciliation with Michelle is completed. Michelle, determined to punish Mark for his dalliance, is equally determined to conceal that she had an affair of her own during their hiatus. Lilly is a dancer with a dazzling body, and she is testing her sexual power on Mark, who can't resist her. To add insult to injury, she's a family friend of Michelle. When these three settle in for the night, Mark's apartment becomes a pressure-cooker for sexual chutzpah, stoked with strong temptations, daring stratagems and equally daring apologies.
The playscript is actually Matt Morillo's comedic adaptation of "Sleepover" by Maria Micheles (2007), a gloomy dramatic treatment of a menage-a-trois in modern New York. It was produced to little notice by Theater for the New City in April, 2007. Morillo, whose metier is comedies on the mating game, saw in it the humorous potential of a play about three libertines trying to outsmart each other.
Lilly will be played by JessAnn Smith, who is choreographing her own dances and writing and recording her own music for the part. Mark will be played by Tom Plutik. Both appeared at TNC in "Angry Young Women… " Michelle will be played by Lori Faiella. Set design is by Mark Marcante. Lighting Design is by Amith A. Chandrashaker. Costume design is by Nora Gustuson.

JACK'S LAST CALL
(Say Goodbye to Kerouac)
Written by PATRICK FENTON
The drinking, the fame that grew after On the Road was published, the differences with his family, these parts of Jack Kerouac's life, which made him a cultural icon of the American 50's, are well known to many. But there is another part of Kerouac that only a few villagers from the quiet hamlet of Northport on Long Island had the chance to see up close. This is the Kerouac presented in Patrick Fenton's play, JACK'S LAST CALL (Say Goodbye to Kerouac.)

It is the end of the summer in 1964, a major cultural shift is starting to happen, and on his last night in Northport, Long Island, the America Kerouac saw through a rear view mirror along side of Neal Cassady is slowly playing again in his mind. While wondering back on his road days, he receives a series of soul--searching phone calls from his daughter Jan.
Featuring:
RON RYAN as Jack Kerouac
ANNA LISA MCCLELLAND as his Daughter
JACK O'CONNELL as his Father
MARY TIERNEY as his Mother

NEW Residencies, Grants, Spaces for Performing Artists

NEW Residencies, Grants, Spaces for Performing Artists

New in 2009: The NYC Performing Arts Spaces websites have been consolidated and redesigned for ease of use!

Dancers, musicians, actors, choreographers and directors rehearsing and performing in New York City will benefit from new features added to nycMusicSpaces.org, nycDanceSpaces.org and nycTheatreSpaces.org:
* a brand new multidisciplinary search function -- you can now do a search for a space that is suitable for dance and theatre, or dance and music, etc., something that wasn't possible with the old sites. Try it out!

* an expanded keyword search which allows you to search our databases not only for space names, but also street addresses, equipment and amenities.

* an interactive map of New York City on each website, with clearly designated and updated neighborhoods and boundaries.

* a new search capability that allows you to easily see your chosen search 'filters' and displays your searches clearly as you narrow down your results.

* Aerialists and others take note: you can now search listings by ceiling height. This feature is found on nycDanceSpaces.org (under the "Size" filter) and is interdisciplinary.

Check out our new features and tell us what you think!

The redesign of NYC Performing Arts Spaces's websites was enabled by the organization's merger with Fractured Atlas, a non-profit organization serving the basic resource needs of a national community of performing and visual artists and arts organizations. Fractured Atlas's sister company, Gemini SBS, oversaw the redesign of NYC Performing Arts Spaces, and provides IT consulting and custom software development for other non-profit organizations and government agencies.
NYC Performing Arts Spaces's services remain free of charge to all who use them -- both performing artists seeking space and facilities with spaces available for rent.
We are very grateful to the following public funders, corporations, and foundations for their support of this expanded version of NYC Performing Arts Spaces:

Mertz Gilmore Foundation
Carnegie Corporation of New York
Durst Organization
The New York City Council, and The Office of Speaker Christine C. Quinn.

Studios in Outer Boroughs: Rehearsal Subsidy & Creative Residency Funding

Dance Theater Workshop's (DTW) Outer/Space Program supports facilities that provide viable and affordable rehearsal space to the greater dance community. Awards ranging from $2000-$6,000 will be distributed in May 2009 in a continued effort to assist artists who manage public dance studios in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island. Deadline: February 20, 2009.
NEW: Theatre: Indo-American Arts Council Playwrights' Week Festival

The Indo-American Arts Council (IAAC) supports artistic disciplines influenced by the arts of India. The IAAC and Lark's annual Playwrights' Week Festival focuses exclusively on developing new and unheard voices for the theatre through targeted outreach efforts, growth opportunities for playwrights and theatre artists, and organized forums for community discussion. Playwrights selected for the festival are provided with creative teams, ten hours of rehearsal time and a public presentation to address specific developmental goals. Postmark deadline for all submissions: January 20, 2009.

NEW: Strategic Opportunity Stipends from NYFA

Strategic Opportunity Stipends (SOS), a project of the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), working in collaboration with arts councils and cultural organizations across New York State, are designed to help individual artists of all disciplines take advantage of unique opportunities that will significantly benefit their work or career development. Literary, media, visual, music and performing artists may request support ranging from $100 to $600 for specific, forthcoming opportunities that are distinct from works in progress. Deadline: February 5, 2009 for opportunities occurring between March 1 and June 30, 2009.

Support for Live Performance: The MAP Fund

The Multi-Arts Production Fund (MAP) supports original new work in all disciplines and traditions of the live performing arts. The MAP Fund assists artists who are exploring and challenging the dynamics of live performance within our changing society. MAP seeks to support work that brings insight and vibrant critique to the issue of cultural difference.

Applications for MAP support must come from organizations based in the United States that have current nonprofit federal tax status. Nonprofit artist services organizations may apply as fiscal sponsors on behalf of unincorporated artists or ensembles. The MAP Fund supports only artistic projects that contain or will contain a live-performance component. Up to forty awards are given each year. Award amounts range from $10,000 to $45,000. Deadline: January 20, 2009.

Project-based Residency: LMCC's Swing Space

The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) is accepting online applications for the next session of its Swing Space project-based residency program. Swing Space makes vacant spaces available to artists, arts groups, curators, and arts organizations for the development and presentation of new projects in the visual and performing arts. Swing Space artists and arts groups are also eligible to apply for stipends ranging from $300 to $3,000 to support project costs. Projects recommended by an independent review panel will be considered for placement from May through October 2009 for residencies lasting 2-4 months. Deadline: January 21, 2009

Give Back to NYC Performing Arts Spaces

If our eblasts have guided you to residencies or other opportunities...

Secretary of Arts
Dear Friends,

You may already have received this, but it is so important, I'm
passing it along.

Quincy Jones has started a petition to ask President-Elect Obama to
appoint a Secretary of the Arts. While many other countries have
had Ministers of Art or Culture for centuries, The United States
has never created such a position. We in the arts need this and
the country needs the arts--now more than ever. Please take a
moment to sign this important petition and then pass it on to your
friends and colleagues.
