Thursday, October 25, 8pm
Friday, October 26, 8pm

Tickets: $10

Curated by Rashida Bumbray

Pipa virtuoso and composer Min Xiao-Fen returns to The
Kitchen with a new commissioned work, Return of the Dragon
, that interweaves diverse musical influences including
Chinese folk music, American jazz, and bluegrass. The
performance features Xiao-Fen (pipa and vocals), Okkyung
Lee (cello), and Satoshi Takeishi (percussion and
electronics).

Opening the evenings is Guillermo E. Brown, who tests the
boundaries of free jazz and hip hop in Syrup, a new
collection of electro-acoustic sonic explorations
influenced by Afro-Latin and Caribbean music. Syrup
features Brown on drums, vocals, and electronics, Shoko
Nagai (piano, keyboard, and electronics), and a guest
percussionist.

Music programs at The Kitchen are made possible with
generous support from the Mary Flagler Cary Charitable
Trust, the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, The New York State
Music Fund, and with public funds from the New York State
Council on the Arts, a state agency.
