Newark Symphony Hall Presents a Jazz Marathon in November

The Jazz Marathon is a critical first step in reconnecting
with the
larger community by extending an invitation for members of the greater
Newark community to play a significant role in the future of Newark
Symphony Hall and take ownership for its success.

The historic Newark Symphony Hall (NSH) is staging a comeback,
launching its first event of the fall 2007 season -- A Jazz Marathon,
Thursday, November 15 from 5:00 pm to 1:00 am in the legendary Terrace
Ballroom. The event, presented in cooperation with WBGO-FM Jazz 88 and
the Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District features over 50 jazz
musicians, singers, tap dancers, and spoken word artists who will
donate their talent for the benefit of restoring this great facility.

Featured Jazz Ensembles include: Rufus Reid Quintet, Spirit of Life
Ensemble, Carrie Jackson & The Jazzin' All Star Trio, Roseanna Vitro
Quartet, Don Williams & Lady CiCi and the Swinging Just Us Band,
Antoinette Montague and the Bill Easley Quartet, and Steve & Iqua
Colson.

TK Blue, Cecil Brooks, III, Chris Brown, Melvin Davis, James Gibbs,
Bradford Hayes, Leo Johnson, Cornell McGhee, Dion Parson, Jason
'Malletman' Taylor, Sherry Winston are the featured musicians.

Vocalists Cynthia Holiday, Tulivu Donna Cumberbatch, Yvette Glover,
Jan Carden and Antoinette Montague will grace the stage with melodic
tunes.

Dancers Savion Glover, Maurice Chestnut,,Deborah Mitchell and Karen
Calloway Williams will display the artistry of jazz tap. The art of
the spoken word will be presented by Juba Dowdell.

WBGO's Dorthaan Kirk Honored
The all-star program will pay tribute to WBGO-FM Jazz Fridays, a
pivotal series in the history of jazz music in the city of Newark from
1986-1991. The series' artistic creator, Dorthaan Kirk (right),
currently the station's special events and programs coordinator, will
be honored for producing the series that featured some the greatest
names in jazz.

The Revival Renovation Fund
Newark Symphony Hall is one of New Jersey's most impressive and
legendary centers of community arts, education and entertainment, and
has greatly enriched the lives of thousands of patrons from the
metropolitan area.

The Revival Renovation Fund will help us undertake some urgent
renovation projects. Upgrading the NSH facilities will increase our
tenant occupancy, expand our programming, and stabilize our revenue
stream.

The Jazz Marathon is sponsored by PSE&G and presented in collaboration
with WBGO-FM Jazz 88 and the Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District with
support from the Montclair Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Parker Music Productions and IATSE Local 21 Stagehands.
