One of the most important arrangers in the history of jazz, Gil Evans

was at the forefront of new musical styles for four decades, starting

in the 1940s. This pre-concert lecture will trace Evans' career from

The Birth Of The Cool sessions through his best-known recordings with

Miles Davis and on through his important work with own big band and

classic collaborations with Kenny Burrell, Astrud Gilberto and Sting.

Branford Marsalis - October 26-27, The Allen Room, 7:30/9:30pm

The Branford Marsalis Quartet and special guests take the stage in

celebration of the great arrangers of jazz, featuring the masterworks

of Gil Evans.

Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra with Arturo O'Farrill on an evolutionary

tour of Latin rhythm in jazz. The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra

with Wynton Marsalis are Chasin' the 'Trane - hear fresh

interpretations of Coltrane's masterpieces "Giant Steps," "Africa,"

and "My Favorite Things."
